Quarterbacks were going done on both sides of the field Saturday as the Dukes and Gaels were fighting for a MAAC win. A true freshman, third-string quarterback came off Duquesne's bench, and though misidentified throughout the game, led the Dukes to their 36th straight conference victory.

The unknown QB was announced as Brian Smoot but in fact it was another Harrisburg native who took over when Ben Palumbo. who started for the injured Scott Knapp, had to leave the game with multiple injuries.

Kevin Rombach was an outstanding 11-of-17 (64.7%) for 171 yards (15.5 ypc), one touchdown with zero interceptions. Sophomore Alex Roberson had his first 100-yard game on four catches for 103 yards and junior James Jacobs gained 67 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns. Junior DE Ryan Esdale led the defense with 11 tackles including a sack, another tackle for loss and a fumble recovery.

Duquesne held Iona to 135 total yards. The Dukes entered the game ranked second nationally in total defense, giving up an average of 211.9 yards per game.
