David Gonzalvez is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard out of Marietta, Ga. who played this past winter for Notre Dame Prep, the No. 1 ranked prep school team in the country by Scout.com. Gonzalvez averaged nine points and four rebounds per game on a squad that has nine players heading to Division I schools. Notre Dame Prep, located in Fitchburg, Mass., finished 19-1 this winter with Gonzalvez either starting or playing a key role off of the bench. He is known as a strong defender and a jack of all trades.

"We are very pleased that David has chosen to attend the University of Richmond," Mooney said. "We feel that his ability, along with his experience at great programs, will aide his transition to the college game."

Gonzalvez helped lead Wheeler High to a 31-1 record and the 2005 Georgia AAAAA State Championship as a senior in 2004-05. He was the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game to go with 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Gonzalvez shot 38.5-percent from 3-point land and 45-percent from the field. Wheeler was ranked third in the state of Georgia and was ranked as high as 11th in the nation by USA Today.

Gonzalvez is the fifth incoming freshmen signed by the Spiders, joining early-signees David Brewster, Dan Geriot, Steven Kendall and Brian Morris.

Brewster is a 6-6, 195 pound forward who was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner at Springbrook High in Silver Spring, Md. He averaged 20 points per game as both a senior and junior. As a senior he also averaged eight rebounds and four assists per game, earning first-team all-district and first-team all-county honors. Brewster was the MVP of the state all-star game.

Geriot is a 6-9, 215-pound forward/center who was a four-year starter and two-year team captain at Springfield High in Springfield, Pa., where he averaged a double-double of 24.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He was a three-time first-team all-league and first-team all-county selection who made first-team all-state as a senior and second-team all-state as a junior. Geriot was the county player of the year as a junior and the league MVP as a senior, helping his team to the 2005 Central League title.

Kendall is a 6-4, 185-pound guard from Chatham, Va. who averaged seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals per game for Hargrave Military Academy, where he earned all-prep league honors. Kendall played his high school basketball at Blue Ridge School in St. George, Va., where he averaged 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 2004-05.

Morris is a 6-6, 175-pound guard who was a four-year starter at Trinity High in Camp Hill, Pa.. He averaged 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game as a senior, earning him first-team All-Keystone Division honors for the second-straight year. Morris was also a two-time first-team All-District 3AA and a two-time first-team Pennsylvania State AA selection. He helped Trinity to the 2003 state championship, two district titles in 2003 and 2004 and three Keystone Division titles in 2003, 2004 and 2006.

With just seven scholarship players in uniform for more than half the season, Richmond finished 13-17 in 2005-06, Mooney's first year as head coach of the Spiders. Richmond returns three starters off a squad that led the nation in fewest points allowed for most of the 2005-06 season and finished the year ranked eighth in the country, allowing 57.8 points per game.
