Thoughts for Duquesne basketball

I'm sending up prayers for the Duquesne basketball players and the university. What a nightmarish thing to have to go through. My thoughts are with Duquesne.

Jerry Brewer

As a proud alumnus of Duquesne University, my thoughts and prayers are with Ron Everhart, his staff, and the fine student athletes who continue to represent Duquesne with class, even through this senseless tragedy.

My thoughts and prayers are with the men's basketball team and their families especially Sam, Stuart and Kojo who are suffering the most from this senseless act. Kudos to Aaron, Stephen and anyone else involved for their quick thinking and acting in a time of danger, which may have helped these young men immensely. God bless them all.

Go Dukes '93

There can be no reason for such senseless acts of violence as were committed this past weekend. Although we may wish we could, we cannot undo what has taken place but please take comfort in knowing that we have added the injured players, their families, friends and teammates to our prayer lists. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.

URFan1

Likewise fans from the midwest are appalled that this kind of thing could happen, and we wish a full and speedy recovery to all those who are injured.

I too am stunned and saddened. I pray everyone fully recovers. I also pray that somehow, in some way, a silver lining is found in this dark cloud.

Irish STH

It is truly heart breaking that I was on campus a short ten hours before this tragedy enjoying a beautiful afternoon at the football game. My thoughts and prayers go to the players and their families. I also pray that God will continue to keep strong Dr. Dougherty, Mr. Amodio, and Coach Everhart as they guide the students and student-athletes through this difficult period.

Alumnus83

I hope and pray that everyone fully recovers, including the players, students and the University. I thank the people who selfishly helped in this tragic event; their courage should make us all be proud to be part of the Duquesne family. May this sick product of our society be brought to justice quickly. My sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victims.

DuHope

This hits a little closer to home when it comes to a basketball program I get to see compete twice sometimes three times a year. My thoughts and prayers are with the players, their families, and everyone affiliated with Duquesne University. May each one of them make a speedy and complete recovery.

FlyerHoopsMatt

Grands

My thoughts and prayers are with your players and their families in this time of unspeakable tragedy.

While it is horrible that something like this could happen anywhere, as a Pittsburgh native and Pitt graduate who spent a good deal of time on the Bluff, I am totally shocked that this happened on your campus.

mike412

Best wishes and good thoughts from a Umass fan. My prayers are with the players, their families and the rest of the Dukes community.

UmassMinuteman

My prayers go out to the players, their families, and to the whole program.

From what has been said about the actions of the players immediately following the incident, I'd say that they were coming together as a group and were going to form a nucleus of a real team. These kids stepped right into danger to help their fallen teammates. That takes guts.

I have to feel that they'll recover from this and go on to good things. No matter what, things have to improve because this has to be the blackest moment in the program's history.

xlopjoe

Syracuse University fans hope your injured players recuperate with no long-term effects and that the guilty party(ies) are found giving everyone peace of mind. Thoughts and prayers for the players and their families.

Cheriehoop

Prayers and thoughts to all those affected by this horrible act. Pray for the best.

The staff at the PantherDigest.com (along with the thousands that visit the site) sends their thoughts and prayers for your unfortunate basketball players. I realize that one of them is still critical and another in serious condition. We hope to see all five players on the court and in excellent condition in the future. I can only hope they apprehend the thug that shot them. Your neighbors in Oakland wish you the best during this tumultuous time.

Senseless, unprecedented and utterly incomprehensable are words that come to mind in regards to this sad situation. As Everhart stressed, kudos to those whose poise and heroic actions will hopefully make a full recovery possible for the victims of this cowardous act. Many prayers from St. Bonaventure on this tragic day.

LumsdnA10academc98SBU

May God bless the Duquesne family, especially the victims and their relatives. Please let everyone recover. There is nothing else I can say.

Thoughts and prayers with the Duquesne family

GoZags

My thoughts are definitely with the Duquesne family.

spkngrl

I hope everyone pulls through this terrible incident. May GOD please be with them.

SNACKER24

ESPN.com has reported that players ran to their teammates who had been shot to aid them and then they were also shot. I think that says alot about the character of young men. Instead of running away from bullets being fired, they ran toward them to help the already wounded players. That is heroic actions in my book.

As a member of the Xavier nation I was distressed to hear of the shooting last night. Our prayers for a speedy recovery for all your players. We may be foes on the floor but we are all brothers and sisters in life.

Hopefully all the players and injured students are able to recover. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

This person or group of people needs to be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

It is times like this that make our sports seem insignificant.

PA Owl

I will pray for a swift and full recovery for all of thes young men, comfort and strength for their parents and loved ones, and God's grace that no other student ever comes to harm on our campus.

In my upset, I forgot to praise the name of our Heavenly Father. Praise & thanksgiving make it possible for Him to help.

El Duque

Oh my, cannot even believe it. Prayers to the players and their families.

Very sad. My thoughts and prayers to all the players and their families

RDriesen

That's terrible news and very strange. I always pull for Duquesne to do well, since both of my parents went to grad school there. It's a nice city campus. I'm pretty shocked that this would happen there.

Eight Legger

This is a real shame. Appears a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I feel for their coach, formerly head coach of nearby Northeastern, as well as for all their stakeholders.

Brockton Spider

Hearing about this horrific serious incident was a shock, an unbelievable event. Thoughts and prayers are with each and every player and coach, their families and the community from the Bluff. May all recover successfully and completely.

Denny Conroy '70
Columbia, MD

Our prayers certainly go out to the victims and their families. I remember the article from a few years ago were DU was cited as one of the most safest campuses in the Nation. It just proves that in today's world it can happen any where.

CLK70

Our prayers go out to the Dukes community. I cannot imagine the events leading to such a thoughtless act, but we pray for the well being of all!

URFan1

Same here. My prayers are with the players and their families.
