Team GBR's head coach Chris Finch has heralded a new dawn in British Basketball following last week's successful training camp in Florida. | |||

Currently midtable of Group B, Great Britain will tip-off their campaign to reach the topflight of European basketball, Eurobasket A, with a home game against Slovakia at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on August 21. And Finch is thrilled with the progress they made in the States. “I think the players responded really well to each other, what we’re trying to do and the excellent environment. We could not have asked for a better start." “It was very pleasing for myself and our entire staff to see such a committed bunch turn up and begin preparation.” While Luol Deng’s status as a Chicago Bulls star was expected to make him standout during the camp, Finch insists that a number of the squad sparkled in training. “With so many talented players it’s hard to single out just a few but some of the most notable players were Andrew Sullivan’s hunger, Eric Boateng’s improvement, Robert Archibald’s intelligence, Andy Betts’ determination, Luol’s leadership and Richard Midgeley’s shot-making ability. “You get goosebumps seeing these guys, it’s just a great feeling. But the hype is starting to build and keeping that in check will be key to oursuccess." Links
Note: If Kieron makes the British team, he'll get some great international experience. If he doesn't, Achara will be able to practice and play with the Dukes in Canada over the Labor Day weekend. |
