Damian Saunders, who was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 18 and Dec. 23, is just the fifth player in school history to be named the league's top rookie three or more times. Saunders shares this week's award with La Salle's Jerrell Williams.
The 6-7, 205-pound Saunders stuffed the stat sheet once again with eight points, seven rebounds, four blocks and two steals in 29 minutes against RMU. Saunders, who is shooting .552 on the season, leads the Dukes with 19 steals. He ranks second on the team in blocks (18), tied for second in 3-point field goals (10) and tied for third in assists (21) in an average of 20.5 minutes per game.
Saunders has played a major role in helping Duquesne to its best start in 28 years. The 8-3 Dukes take on South Carolina Upstate (2-10) this afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
