DU Women Lose to Eastern Michigan

ITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 79-77 double overtime loss to Eastern Michigan Friday evening.

Keri Pryor led the Dukes with 21 points while Kristi Little (17 points and 10 rebounds) and Amanda Peck (15 points and 11 rebounds) recorded a double-doubles .

Kivilcim Yamanoglu had 21 points off the bench for the Eagles.

DU had a 10 point lead, 51-41, with less than 12 minutes to play in regulation. EMU came back with a 19-3 run, 11 of those points scored by Yamanoglu, to take a 60-54 lead at the 3:14 mark. Duquesne regrouped and responded with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 60-60 behind four foul shots by Little. Both teams had a chance to win the game in regulation as Eastern Michigan's Cassie Schrock's layup rolled off the rim with 3.0 seconds remaining. Duquesne's Jocelyn Chandler grabbed the rebound and called timeout. After the timeout, Pryor's shot at the buzzer missed and for the fourth time this season, the Dukes were headed for overtime.

Both teams played close in the first overtime, which featured three ties and three lead changes. A Little jumper with 14 seconds remaining tied the game at 68-68 and a block by Chandler with one second remaining in the extra period send the game into double overtime.

In the second overtime, a Colleen Russell layup with 59 seconds remaining broke a 75-75 tie and put EMU ahead for good. The Dukes got within one point twice, but could not hold off the Eagles as the stole a win on the road 79-77.

The loss drops Duquesne to 7-6 on the year. The Dukes are off until Jan. 2 as they visit Niagara at 7:00 p.m.

GAME NOTES

    The last double overtime game for Duquesne was a 76-73 loss at Saint Francis, Pa. Dec. 3, 1991
  • Peck's 11 rebounds was a personal-best as this was her first career double-double
  • Eastern Michigan outscored Duquesne in the paint 44-30
  • Little (44), Pryor (40) and Peck (35) all set career-high in minutes played
  • The loss drops the Dukes to 8-12 all-time against Mid-American Conference teams
  • Little was a perfect 10-10 from the foul line
