Both Washington dailies, Post and Times, used wire (AP, Ticker, etc.) summaries though both student papers, the Daily Colonial and GW Hatchet, covered the game. Duquesne vs. George Washington

  • Duquesne: Dukes Chop Down George Washington, 92-67
With his second block - at the 5:46 mark of the first half - James became the 18th player in NCAA Division I history to post 400 career blocked shots. The 6-10 junior entered the game ranked fifth nationally in blocks per game at 4.1. He now has 403 blocked shots in 72 career games.

"I'm excited about the way we shared the ball tonight," said Duquesne coach Ron Everhart. "Twenty-two assists on 31 field goals is good for any coach to see."

... in the first half ... the Dukes held the Colonials to one field goal over an 11:07 stretch.

This was Duquesne's largest margin of victory in the 66-game series that dates back to 1932. DU's previous largest margin was 24 in an 84-60 win over the Colonials in the opening round of the Steel Bowl on Dec. 10, 1965.

  • PG: Healthy James leads way for Duquesne victory
A 92-67 victory against George Washington in an Atlantic 10 Conference game last night at the Palumbo Center was Duquesne basketball at its chaotic finest, with the Dukes swarming on defense, attacking on offense and Shawn James taking care of business around both baskets.

James was running the court like a colt, his knees pumping high and a huge grin on his face. He set the tone early with blocked shots, slam dunks on no-look passes from Kojo Mensah, a jump hook in the lane and a 3-pointer.

Duquesne had 10 players play between 13 and 23 minutes.

Kieron Achara's friends from back home in Sterling, Scotland, attended the game wearing their traditional kilts.

    • College Log book
Duquesne lost to Drake, 77-73, on Dec. 1. As the season plays out, that four-point loss is looking pretty good. The Bulldogs, now No. 22 in the AP poll, win at Creighton, 68-60, to run their record to 17-1. How big is the win? Since Creighton's Qwest Center opened five seasons ago, 18 teams with one or no losses had visited. None had won ... until Drake.

  • Trib: James returns to lead Duquesne in rout

Wow, that's pretty cool," James said, flashing a huge smile. "I'd say there's probably a lot of big-time athletes in that list."

For sure. Guys like David Robinson, Patrick Ewing and Shaquille O'Neal.

James, a junior transfer from Northeastern, where he established an all-time NCAA record with 6.5 blocks per game in 2005-06. (He) wore a brace on the knee and showed little concern over the injuries.

  • GWHatchet.com: Men's basketball drops eighth-straight road game
The Dukes (13-5, 3-2 A-10) employed a fast style of play, one GW could not keep up with. Duquesne took early opportunities in transition to shoot from behind the arc, launching 29 shots from three-point territory. The Colonials took just eight and tried to force its way inside in order to compete but the play often resulted in a turnover, of which GW had 29, the most it has had this season.

Duquesne coach Ron Everhart said setting the pace of the game and keeping it in the Dukes' control was especially important against a team like GW, which he described as "rangy, long and athletic."

(GW coach Karl) Hobbs was assessed a technical foul with a little less than 10 minutes remaining after he exchanged words with a displeased referee. It was Hobbs' second technical in as many games.

More Basketball

  • ProTrade.com: 2 Short term NCAAB Dangerous holds
Although UMASS may look like a great future gainer, this week is surely not the right time to jump in and buy.

UMASS is one of those Cinderella teams that only may be seeing the red numbers within the next week or so with competition against teams such as Xavier and Duquesne. These are the only 2 games that the Minutemen face within the coming week, thus less chances to earn and less upward movement throughout the week.

  • Providence Journal: Atlantic 10 fortifies self into major player
While URI, UMass, Dayton and Xavier grabbed the early season headlines and still boast good-looking RPI numbers, they are not the only four teams to watch. Saint Joseph’s can win the league as its two-game sweep of UMass clearly shows. Charlotte, Duquesne and Temple are dangerous, especially on their home courts.

Duquesne’s Ron Everhart has done the impossible in getting the Dukes up and running.

    • Dayton Daily News: (Wright St.) Raiders don't look at records
Speaking of going to classes, Duquesne transfer and Centerville High graduate Scott Grote, son of former WSU great Bob Grote, made the dean's list last quarter.

Baseball (maybe)

  • He's taking it by the numbers
Sulaymaan Muhammad from Rich Central H.S. ,,, Muhammad, a 17-year-old Park Forest resident, has been a positive at Rich Central with a 3.92 grade-point average that ranks him 12th in his senior class. He has been involved in baseball, football, mathletes, scholastic bowl and key club.

He wants to major in mathematics in college at Missouri, Duquesne, Minnesota or Pittsburgh. "Right now I'm leaning to the University of Missouri," Muhammad explained.
