The win evens Duquesne's Atlantic 10 record to 4-4; they are 14-7 overall. This game stopped two streaks: Duquesne two-game losing and Saint Joseph's six-game winning.
Duquesne had suffered a 74-59 loss at St. Bonaventure on Saturday, the fewest scored this season.
A reverse was in order as Duquesne made the extra pass, shot extremely well, hit from three-point land and outrebounded SJU 36-31.
The Dukes opened with an 11-3 lead, scored 19 straight points in the final minutes of the first half, and took a 49-27 lead to the locker rooms.
Saint Joseph's Pat Calathes scored 19 second half points to lead St. Joe's effort to get back into the game. But the Hawks, who were playing without their second leading scorer Ahmad Nivins, never got the margin into single digits.
The closest was 12 on Garrett Williamson's layup in the final minute that reduced the score to 100-88.
Shawn James had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks. Kojo Mensah led DU's scoring with 19 points. Aaron Jackson and Gary Tucker each put in 18, and Damian Saunders scored 14.
The Hawks also had five double-digit scorers led by Calathes's 23 points and 10 rebounds. Darin Govens added 17, Rob Ferguson 15, Garrett Williamson 14 and Tasheed Carr 11 points in the loss.
Saint Joseph's is now 15-6, 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Saturday, it is Duquesne that will head to the other side of Pennyslvania for a 2:00 p.m. game against La Salle at the Tom Gola Arena.
