XCELLENCE
Xavier improved to 25-4 overall as a results of its 66-56 win over George Washington on Mar. 1. It marks the most regular-season victories in program history. In addition, the Musketeers have won 11 straight games, their longest winning streak since the 2002-03 season when it won a program-best 16 consecutive contests.
TRAVELING WELL
Action within the Conference on Mar. 1 saw road teams come away with four wins in five opportunities. Entering play on Mar. 2, home teams boast a record of 55-43 (.561) in league contests thus far.
CENTURY CLUB
Senior guard Darnell Harris of La Salle leads the A-10 with 108 three-pointers made entering play on Mar. 2. In addition, Charlotte's Leemire Goldwire (97), Jimmy Baron (92) of Rhode Island and Temple's Dionte Christmas (88) are all on pace to drain 100 three-pointers this season. It would mark the first time in league annals that four players made 100 field goals from beyond the arc in the same season.
STAT FILLER
Temple senior guard Mark Tyndale enters the Owls' Mar. 2 contest at Saint Joseph's vying to become the lone player in league history to rank in the top ten of the Conference in scoring (16.2 ppg/ninth) and rebounding (6.7 rpg./eighth) and top five in assists (4.04 apg./fifth). Kudos to Shawn Pastor of OwlsDaily.com for the historical nugget.
WINNING WAYS
Entering action on Mar. 2, ten of the Conference's 14 teams have at least 15 victories this season, the most in league history. In addition, multiple A-10 teams have won 20 or more games for the 13th consecutive year.
DOUBLING UP
Bryant Dunston registered his seventh consecutive double-double on Mar. 1 with 18 points and 11 rebounds in Fordham's 57-50 loss to Dayton. Dunston's leads the A-10 with 14 double-doubles on the year and has amassed 39 for his career. The senior forward moved into second place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,794 points, 92 points behind all-time leading scorer Ed Conlin.
TEN STRONG
Sophomore center Dan Geriot scored a career-igh 35 points on Feb. 27 in Richmond's 82-71 win at St. Bonaventure, his second 30-plus outing of the year and the 19th performance of 30 or more points in the league this season. Fordham senior guard Marcus Stout became the tenth different player in the league to record a 30-point performance this year as he poured in 31 points in the Rams' 78-76 victory at Temple on Feb. 23.
La Salle senior guard Darnell Harris tied his career high with eight field goals from beyond the arc on Feb. 21 as the Explorers edged Dayton in overtime, 81-78. Harris is the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals made with 327, good for second-most in A-10 history. The league record of 331 is held by former Massachusetts standout Monty Mack (1998-01).
BLOCK PARTY
Duquesne junior F/C Shawn James, who had seven blocks in Duquesne's 75-72 loss to La Salle on Feb. 24, continues to climb the NCAA Division I list for career blocks. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native currently ranks tenth on the all-time list with 437 rejections in 80 games. He needs one block to pass Tennessee Tech's Lorenzo Coleman and five to pass Connecticut's Emeka Okafor to move into the eighth spot. Only two players have a higher three-year blocked shot total than James - Okafor who blocked 441 shots in 103 games and Colgate's Adonal Foyle, who sent back 492 shots in 87 games. Foyle ranks second on the all-time list.
LOCK IT UP
As a result of its 85-68 win over Rhode Island on Feb. 27, George Washington improved to an astounding 100-5 over the past four-plus seasons when holding the lead with five minutes remaining. GW junior Noel Wilmore shot 7-of-9 from three-point range in the victory en route to scoring a career-high 24 points.
FLYER FAITHFUL
UD Arena has 84 sellouts in its 38-year history and four so far this year. With its Mar. 8 Saint Joseph's game already announced as a sellout, Dayton is projected to have its second-highest average home attendance in school history (12,801).
DID YOU KNOW?
Entering play on Mar. 2, 11 of the league's 14 teams have been in first place for at least one day and 11 of the Conference's 14 teams have occupied eighth place or lower in the standings. Xavier and Saint Joseph's are the only A-10 teams to be in first or second place in the standings the entire season.
WELL-ROUNDED
Rhode Island senior forward Will Daniels and Kansas State freshman Michael Beasley are the only players nationally to average 19.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, shoot 50 percent from the floor and amass at least 30 assists, 30 steals and 25 blocks.
STAN THE MAN
Xavier senior Stanley Burrell is one of the top defensive players in the A-10 this season. Now ESPN analyst Jay Bilas says it's time to mention Burrell on a national level as well. "We also have a national Defensive Player of the Year award, but we have no candidates for it. Well, if I were to provide candidates for the Henry Iba Award (that's the Mr. Iba Award to you), I would list Kansas guard Mario Chalmers, Xavier guard Stanley Burrell, UCLA guard Darren Collison, Washington State wing Kyle Weaver, Marquette guard Jerel McNeal, and UConn center Hasheem Thabeet. Just looking at the steals and blocked shots leaders won't tell you the whole story on defense. Among a lot of great defenders out there, these few have stood out to me."
FULL MOON
Now in his third season at Richmond, head coach Chris Mooney has led the team (15-12) to its highest single-season win total since the 2003-04 squad won 20 contests.
50'S STYLE
Saint Louis earned a 64-55 victory at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 28 to improve to 12-2 on the year when holding its opponents to under 60 points.
FIVE MORE PLEASE
La Salle edged Dayton, 81-78, in overtime on Feb. 21, raising the number of overtime contests in league play to eight this season.
BALANCING ACT
The Musketeers are 19-0 on the year when four or more players reach double digits after turning aside George Washington on Mar. 1, 66-56.
MODEL OF CONSISTENCY
Senior guard/forward Gary Forbes of Massachusetts has scored in double figures in 32 consecutive games and has 16 performances of 20 or more points this season, tops in the Conference. Forbes ranks second in the Conference in scoring at 20.1 ppg.
GOOD AS GOLD
Leemire Goldwire scored a career and A-10 season-high 39 points in Charlotte's 87-83 win at St. Bonaventure on Feb. 9. Goldwire leads the league with five 30-point outings and is one of 14 players in program history to reach the 1,500-point milestone.
ELITE COMPANY
Temple junior Dionte Christmas leads the league in scoring with an average of 20.1 ppg., just ahead of UMass senior Gary Forbes (20.1 ppg.). Christmas is vying to become just the third player in A-10 history. The two other players to hold that distinction are John Battle of Rutgers (1984, 1985) and St. Bonaventure's Earl Belcher (1980, 1981).
WINNING WAYS
Duquesne (16-10) clinched its first winning season since 1993-94 as a result of its 63-61 victory at Dayton on Feb. 13. The win also marked the 200th career victory for 14th-year head coach Ron Everhart, now in his second season at Duquesne.
