Senior Reggie Jackson led four Dukes in double-figures with 17 points. Junior Kojo Mensah and freshman Bill Clark each had 14 and Gary Tucker added 10 points. Junior Shawn James, Mensah and Tucker each had seven rebounds. Aaron Jackson had five assists, Reggie Jackson three steals and four Dukes had one block each.
James, who had one of those swat-aways, left the game with just over 10 minutes left to play. He was checked by Duquesne's trainer after being fouled on an attempted dunk. James stayed in and made both free throws, but spent the remainder of the game with ice on his shoulder.
Duquesne was cold at the start of the first half, trailing Charlotte by a game-high 12 points, 25-13, with seven minutes left in the period. Following a 30-second timeout, the warmer Dukes put together a 15-2 run for a 28-27 lead.
The advantage seesawed after that with the 49ers taking a 36-34 edge at the break.
Both teams shot well at the start of the second half, Charlotte somewhat better to stretch the edge back to 12. The Dukes got within two, 82-80, on Reggie Jackson's trey with 1:42 left in the game.
Lamont Mack's putback of Charlie Coley's missed dunk raised the 49ers edge to 84-80. DU got within three, 85-82, on a pair of Tucker free throws. Charlotte ran off the final four points for the seven-point win.
Charlotte was led by Leemire Goldwire with 24 points and five steals. Mack added 19, Coley 16, and Ian Anderson had 13 points. An'Juan Wilderness had nine rebounds and Michael Gerrity had seven assists.
Duquesne closes the A-10 road schedule on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Temple's Liacouras Center in Philadelphia at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised by CSTV regional.
