Duquesne football, lacrosse and soccer plays on Rooney Field, named for Arthur J. Rooney, the late founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and longtime benefactor to Duquesne University.
Normally, a Rooney means good things for Duquesne This time, not so much. In fact, not at all.

The Dukes directed 25 shots toward the Jacksonville goal requiring freshman goaltender Alexa Rooney to make 11 saves. This included three stops in the second overtime.
Ms. Rooney, from Notre Dame High School (natch) in Peoria, Ill., gave her teammates the opportunity to steal a remarkable win. With less than a minute left in the second overtime, Jelena Vrcelj got the ball past Duquesne sophomore goalie Gabby Morrin for the victory.
Sophomore Samantha Kaiser led Duquesne's attack with five shots, two headed to the net. DU had seven corner kicks to JU's two. Jacksonville got off 14 shots in the 119 minute, eight second contest. Morrin had three saves for the Dukes.
The Dolphins hit the scoreboard at 34:02 of the first half when Kerri Zwikker's shot hit the net. Jessica Hurtado and Emme Graham assisted on the score.
Duquesne (0-1) knotted the game at the 78:10 mark on freshman Gia Marino's unassisted marker. The score remained 1-1 through the rest of regulation and the first overtime.
The Dukes offense went on the attack in the final 15 minutes knocking five shots toward the goal, three in less than 30 seconds.
Jelena Vrceli's second shot in the period, off an assist from Zwikker, raised Jacksonville's 2008 record to 2-1.
Duquesne returns to action next Friday, September 5, 2009, in their home opener against Niagara at 7:00 p.m. on Rooney Field.
