The undefeated Duquesne men's soccer team captured the Duquesne Invitational title via a 2-1 overtime win over Lafayette, Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field. DU is now 3-0-3.

Freshman Tyler Tompkins's game-winner came off an assist from sophomore Stefan Lundberg with just 1:06 gone in overtime.

Lafayette, which beat Richmond, 4-1, on Friday, is now 2-3-1.

The defenses kept the game scoreless until the ninth minute of the second half. Nick Leigh, who had a team-high six shots, found the net off assists from B.J. Glenn and Steve Ference at 53:49.

Duquesne was in an unusual position, trailing and doing so in the second half. Sophomore Ben Horner, the tournament MVP, netted a penalty kick to tie the game, 81:23 on the clock. Horner had two goals and two assists this weekend.

Tompkins got off a game-best seven shots. Sophomore Chris Torres had three saves.

The Dukes had an 18-16 edge on shots taken, the Leopards, a 4-3 advantage on those directed to the goal line. Neither team had a SOG in the first half. LU's Andrew Pianko had one save.

In tournament action on Saturday, the Atlantic 10 Spiders got their first win of the '08 season, topping Marshall 4-2.

Duquesne, seventh in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll, travels to Niagara (3-1-1) for a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday, September 19, 2008. The Purple Eagles are third in the NSCCA North Atlantic region.
