The 3-0-3 undefeated Duquesne men's soccer team won both games in this weekend's event. Ben Horner had two goals and two assists in these contests.
On Friday, Horner scored the game-winning goal and added assists on the first and third goals in the Dukes' 4-1 win over Marshall. Sunday against Lafayette, he canned a penalty kick goal that tied the score at 1-apiece and forced play into overtime. The Dukes pulled out a 2-1 victory on Tyler Tompkins' first collegiate goal.
The sophomore from Butler, Pa. leads the Dukes' scoring, and is fifth in the A-10, with six points. Horner had three assists in 15 games as a freshman. He started 11 times.
Horner joins 10 other players, including six from nationally-ranked schools, on this week's CSN national team.
Duquesne, seventh in last week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll, travels to Niagara (3-1-1) for a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday, September 19, 2008. The Purple Eagles are third in the NSCCA North Atlantic region. (see note below.)
