Swingman Melquan Bolding played last season at Fitchburg, Massachusetts' Notre Dame Prep following his time at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y. A highly regarded prep, Bolding averaged 18 points and seven rebounds per game. He had averaged 21.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game as a junior at Archbishop Stepinac. Bolding had also been recruited by Louisville, St. John's and Syracuse.
Duquesne, which lost its top five scorers from last year's 17-13 team, has four scholarship players returning led by senior Aaron Jackson, last year's #6 scorer at 9.0 ppg to go along with 4.0 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.4 spg and a 2.00 assist/turnover ratio. Sophomores Damian Saunders (6.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 30 games), who was named to the 2008 A-10 All-Rookie Team, Bill Clark (8.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 30 games) and David Theis (1.8 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 11 games).
The Dukes also return a couple junior non-scholarship players, Jason Duty (2.3 ppg, 11.4 mpg) and Jimmy Sherwood (0.7 ppg, 1.2 rpg).
In addition to Bolding (6-4, 190), the other freshman are guards Eric Evans (5-11, 195) and Chase Robinson (6-2, 190), swingman B.J. Monteiro (6-5, 195), forwards Aleksandar Milovic (6-7, 220), Shawntez Patterson (6-7, 180) and Rodrigo Peggau (6-8, 230) and big forward Oliver Lewinson (6-9, 240). {Lewinson was a late signee after senior Phillip Fayne's illness knocked him from the basketball court.]
