Four Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball teams announced National Letter of Intent signings Wednesday, the final day of the NLI Fall Signing Period. Two teams add to their classes and two make their first announcement. Three of the five recruit pronouncements are surprises. No new announcements today, Thursday.

Massachusetts

  • Sampson Carter, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward From Memphis, Tenn. and The Wincendon School in Maine, averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 59 percent from the floor including 39 percent from 3-point range at state champion Ridgeway H.S. last season. Carter was Scout.com's number 27 small forward in the class of 2008. He played with the Memphis Magic AAU program. Sampson is the brother of UMass head coach Derek Kellogg's director of player personnel, Shyrone Chatman. No verbal commitment on our records.

Carter joins Freddie Riley, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Hargrave Military Academy and Vanguard HS in Ocala, Fla., and Javon Farrell, a 6-foot-5, 180 pound swingman from Washington, D.C. area's Riverdale Baptist High School in Upper Marlboro, Md.,in the Minutemen's Class of 2009.

St. Bonaventure

  • Demitrius Conger, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Brooklyn, N.Y. and Covenant Christian Academy in Georgia, averaged 18 points per game in his second season at CCA. No verbal committment on our records.

Saint Louis

  • Jeff Reid, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Hayden H.S. in Topeka, Kan., averaged 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists a game. He shot 55 percent from the field, 37 percent from 3-point range and 73 percent from the free-throw line for the 21-6 state champions. Also played at Bewster H.S., also in Kansas. Was expected Reid would wait till the spring to sign. He was also recruited by Dayton, Gonzaga, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State and Wichita State. His brother, Josh Reid ('00), was a star at KSU. Reid joins Jonathan Smith, a 6-foot-7, 180-pound forward from Grove City (OH) High School, Cory Remekun, a 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward from Mesquite High School in Texas, and Christian Salecich, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound shooting guard from Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, in SLU's Class of 2009.

Temple

  • Rahlir Jefferson,, a 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward from nearby Chester (PA) High School, averaged 10.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 blocks per game as a junior. He was also recruited by George Washington, Penn State, Providence and Saint Joseph's. Verbal commitment had been reported.
  • Khalif Wyatt, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound shooting guard from Norristown High School in the Philadelphia suburbs, averaged 18.0 points per game for 33-2 state championship game runner-up. He also played with the AAU Team Final program. Delaware and Saint Joseph's were also involved. Verbal commitment had been reported.
