James Out for Rest of NBA Season

Posted Mar 30, 2009

Saturday, the Washington Wizards announced that Duquesne alum Mike James had a fractured finger and would miss the remainder of the 2008-09 season. He's scheduled for surgery Tuesday to have a pin inserted in his hand; his right pinkie is broken in three places.

Mike James came to the Washington Wizards on December 9, 2008, from the New Orleans Hornets in a three-team trade.

The Wizards injury list already had seven players on it before Mike's entry.

Washington Wizards Injury Report:

James had started 50 games and was averaging 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 0.8 steals and had a 2.12 assist / turnover ratio in 53 games for the Wizards this season.

In his last outing, James had 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals and three treys in the Wizards' 95-93 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday. His highs this year were 26 points (12/25/08), eight rebounds (12/21/08) and 11 assists (12/27/08). He was shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 36.7% from three-point range and 83.8 percent from the foul line.

Mike, who played in Europe before getting his first contract with the Miami Heat, has completed his eighth NBA season. His career averages are 10.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 3.6 apg and 0.8 spg. He previously played with Miami, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee, Toronto, Minnesota, Houston and New Orleans.

James was inducted into Duquesne's Sports Hall of Fame this past November 14, 2008. He led Duquesne in steals and assists as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was named to the Atlantic 10 first team in 1997-98 and finished his career tenth on Duquesne's all-time scoring list with 1,411 points. (James is now no. 13 - he was just passed by Aaron Jackson whose 46 points in the NIT double overtime loss to Virginia Tech gave A.J. 1,428.)

He and Angela have four daughters: Jadon Miciah, Amaya Noel, Michal Mikaya and McKinly Joel.
