Duquesne junior Bill Clark hit a rim-circling three-pointer with 12 seconds left that returned the 52-50 lead to Duquesne in Tuesday night's win over Iowa in the O'Reilly Auto Parts College Basketball Experience (CBE) Classic at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Sophomore B.J. Montiero blocked Eric May's* last second jumper to preserve the victory.

Duquesne maintained the lead for most of the game including a 21-minute stretch that ended when Iowa's Matt Gatens canned a trey for a 47-46 lead with 2:51 left to play.

Senior Jason Duty's three-pointer a minute later put DU back in control, 49-47. Sophomore B.J. Monteiro, who was fouled rebounding Eric May's missed shot, was unable to convert the front end of the one-and-one, the Hawkeyes hopes still alive.

Freshman Brennan Cougill was fouled by junior Damian Saunders as his layup tied the score, 49-49. That was the fifth foul for the Atlantic 10 Conference preseason second team selection who left the game with his second straight double-double, this one 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Cougill calmly canned the free throw with this team ahead, 50-49, 41 seconds remaining. Sophomore Eric Evans took some time off the clock before finding Clark for the game-winner. And Monteiro personally ensured his missed free throw wouldn't be a deciding factor.

Clark, a preseasson A-10 third teamer who played 39 minutes tonight, led all scorers with 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Saunders also had two assists, six steals and three blocks. Evans tied for the game high with six assists.

Tucker was the lone Hawkeye in double figures with 16 points, Gatens pulled down eight rebounds and, along with Cully Payne, had two steals. May had a pair of blocked shots. Cougill had eight points, four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in 15 minutes of action.

Iowa (0-2) next hosts Bowling Green, Friday, Novemeber 20, 2009, in a non-CBE contest, before heading to Kansas City, Mo. for the CBE semifinals. UI takes on Texas on Monday, Nov. 23rd and will face either Pittsburgh or Wichita State on Tuesday
